Judges
The competition is judged by a panel of 3 professional musicians/performers. The judges for SoJam 2008 are: Julia Hoffman (CASA), Nate Altimari (Firedrill!), and John Clark (CB Productions). Each of these judges are also taking part in the SoJam festival in some other way, whether that be hosting master classes, teaching workshops and/or The Producer's Track, or performing in the Professional Showcase.
Scoring
Groups will be scored based on Musicality, Performance, Energy, and Creativity. If there are close decisions by the panel of judges, the Audience Vote will make the difference. The final decision, however, will ultimately be reached through consensus of all judges. The judges will award first, second, and third place winners. Additional prizes may be awarded to each competing group, regardless of place. Remember: no whiners allowed. These judges know what they are doing!
Prizes
We, the AACI, understand and appreciate the fact that a competition wouldn't be complete without some kind of incentive. Though we are admittedly biased, we like to think our prizes are pretty sweet. The prizes for this year's event are as follows:
First Place:
* FREE SoJam 2009 tickets
* Opportunity to open the Pro Showcase
* Choose between custom arrangement (Joseph Bates or Robert Dietz) and professional press kit (a $300 value!)
Second Place:
* 33% off SoJam 2009 tickets
* Choose between custom arrangement (Bates/Dietz) and professional press kit
Third Place:
* 25% off SoJam 2009 tickets
* Custom arrangement (Bates/Dietz) or professional press kit (remaining prize)
Logistics
Competing groups will be allowed a ten minute sound check. Groups will be provided with any and all necessary sound equipment and are not permitted to bring their own microphones, headsets, sound technicians, etc. Performances will be no longer than 12 minutes each. Competing groups who drop out for any reason not approved by the AACI will be barred from competition for one year. All competition/ticket fees are non-refundable.
Merchandise
Competing groups may submit their merchandise to be sold at the AACI merchandise table, which will be in a central location, on Friday night. Only the winning group, however, will have the opportunity to sell their albums and merchandise throughout the entire weekend. The AACI will maintain a merchandise table throughout the event and will retain a percentage of all merchandise sales. Any of the Sing series discs will only be sold by the AACI.
