SoJam's Friday Night Collegiate Competition has earned its spot as one of the most competitive, rewarding and revealing collegiate concerts in the country! This year's show is NOT going to be your average a cappella competition. Rather than simply a time for competing groups to show off, we are looking for this year's applicants to lead the charge in inspiring a weekend of creativity and passion for all groups participating in the SoJam experience. Much more is at stake than just first, second, and third place in this competition, and to sweeten the pot, we're throwing in some pretty sweet prizes.
Here's what you need to do to submit:
1. Record up to ten minutes of a performance by YOUR GROUP.
It can be in rehearsal, in concert, on the street corner or in your garage, but it has to be a cappella... *and it has to be of members from this school year (the 2008-2009 school year)*. All arrangements and material will be considered, but remember, we're looking for something exciting and fresh! We won't murder you if you go over the ten minutes, but try and keep it as close as possible. We're going to have a lot of a cappella to listen to! So grab your camcorders or camera phones or whatever will take quality video for you to send to us, and record us ten rockin' minutes of your group doing what they do best: singing.
2. Post the video on YouTube.
We here in the AACI believe that a cappella geeks are perhaps the most dashing, talented, and intelligent geeks out there. So naturally, most of you know how to throw a video up on to YouTube. You'll need your own YouTube account, but it's free and easy. (If you need help with this, visit the YouTube Help Center.)
Make sure that you title the video "SOJAM COMP. SUBMISSION 2008 - (insert your group's name here)", and make sure to use the comment section of the video uploader to tell us what songs you're singing and who arranged them. You don't have to necessarily send us songs that you'll be competing with, but it won't hurt your chances as the super famous top secret judges won't see your work until you step on the SoJam stage.
3. Fill out the SoJam Collegiate Competition Submission Form!
Once you fill out the form, which can be found HERE, and submit your video to us, the footage will be sent to a geographically diverse committee of a cappella geeks who will review your videos, have a long and intense conference call and board meeting, and then decide on the six groups that will be showing their stuff on Friday, Nov. 7th 2008.
To submit your videos, simply upload the video to your YouTube account, and copy and paste the video URL into the appropriate fields of the submission form. Make sure to fill out all pertinent information on the form so that we can get in touch with you if necessary. *Please send your submissions by no later than 11:00pm EST on Thursday, October 23, 2008.*
4. Prepare to rock!
The selection committee will meticulously pore over your submissions and announce via the SoJam website and the RARB forum which groups will be competing on Sunday, October 26, 2008.
The six competing groups will be expected to present a twelve minute set of music to our panel of pretty famous judges. If you go over twelve minutes, we won't hang you, but try and stay within the time limit as we want to keep the flow of the show pretty slick. You'll sing your hearts out and then you'll be treated to some delicious sounds and crazy antics by some yet-to-be-named rockin' aca-talent while the judges deliberate. As I said before, more is at stake than just first, second and third place. The judges can award other superlative awards as they see fit, and these might include but are not limited to: 'best dressed group', 'male and female oustanding soloist awards', 'best song intro/ending', 'best bass sound', and a 'showstopper award' just to name a few.
In short, bring your A-game and get ready for a ridiculously hottt night of collegiate a cappella!
