Get ready for the collegiate a cappella event of the year! The SoJam Collegiate Competition is the opening show for a weekend that has been blowing people’s minds for seven years now. This is NOT going to be your average a cappella competition. What better way to frame a weekend crammed full of aca-knowledge and jaw dropping performances than with a good spirited, creative juice-inspiring, knock-em-dead collegiate brawl?
This SoJam Collegiate Competition isn’t just intended to be a time for the competing groups to show off (though we still very much want you to do that.) We’re looking for applicants who will lead the charge in inspiring the creativity, innovation and passion for a cappella in other groups participating in the SoJam experience. And to sweeten the pot, we’re throwing in some pretty sweet prizes. But first things first. Here’s what we need from you:
It can be in rehearsal, in concert, on the street corner or in your garage, but it has to be a cappella and it has to be of members from this school year (the 2011-2012 school year.) All arrangements and material will be considered.
Make sure that you title the video ‘SoJam 2011 Collegiate Competition – ‘(Insert your group name here)’, and make sure to use the video info section of the uploader to indicate your school and title/arranger for each song on the recording. You do not have to record the songs that you’ll be competing with, but it will not hurt your chances. The judges won’t see your work until you step on the SoJam stage.
(If you need help with this, visit YouTube’s help page).
Once you’ve uploaded your video, go HERE and purchase your group’s SoJam Weekend Passes. Please note: YOUR GROUP MUST PURCHASE WEEKEND PASSES FOR ALL ATTENDING MEMBERS TO BE CONSIDERED TO COMPETE. SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS. All tickets are non-refundable, so make sure you have your ducks in a row before you buy. Once you’ve purchased tickets, you’ll be prompted to paste in links to your YouTube videos. The video links will be sent to a diverse committee that will choose the six groups that will be showing their stuff on Friday, Nov. 11th 2011.
To purchase your tickets, simply click here and be sure to include accurate, up-to-date contact information. Only groups that have purchased weekend passes for their whole group will be considered to compete. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59pm on Friday, October 7, 2011 Monday, October 10, 2011.
If you have already registered and indicated in your group registration that you are applying to compete, but at the time of registration you did not have your video ready to upload, you may also email the link to your videos to virginia@casa.org.
The Selection Committee will announce the six competing groups on Sunday, October 9, 2010 Friday, October 14, 2011.
The six competing groups will be expected to present a twelve minute set of music to our panel of experienced judges. If you go over twelve minutes, we won’t hang you, but do try and stay within the time limit as we want to keep the flow of the show pretty slick. As we said before, more is at stake than just 1st and 2nd place- the judges can award other superlative awards as they see fit, and these might include but are not limited to: ‘best dressed group’, ‘male and female outstanding soloist awards’, ‘best song intro/ending’, ‘best bass sound’, and a ‘showstopper award’ just to name a few.
Case in point, bring your ‘A’ game and be ready for an awesome night of Collegiate A Cappella!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at virginia@casa.org. We can’t wait to start seeing your submissions!!
